Too Much Light ...

Arlington, TX — AT&T Stadium is a billion-dollar shrine to Cowboys greatness and future Super Bowl dreams—or at least, that’s the brochure. In reality, it's a gleaming, architectural masterpiece …with one tiny flaw: it occasionally tries to roast players alive and blind Cowboys fans with the power of the sun.

Thanks to a slight but very permanent design flaw, the stadium faces east-west. Great for symmetrical aesthetics, not so great if you don't want to turn game day into an optometrist's nightmare. As the sun dips in the sky, it hits just the right angle to turn the field into a blinding, retina-searing gauntlet for anyone trying to catch a pass or, you know, watch the game.

This has been an ongoing issue, of course, since the sun has been unwilling to change its celestial movements to accommodate athletes and sports fans. But don’t think for a second that this is just a Cowboys problem. It’s an equal-opportunity disaster, with players from both the Cowboys and the Eagles struggling to throw and catch passes on Sunday.  The sun doesn’t pick winners, although it did have an unrestricted, front-row seat to some Cowboys misery on Sunday, when the Eagles cruised to a 34-6 victory.

The Cowboys owner, when asked if he’d consider a solution, said "Let’s just tear down the whole stadium and build another. You kidding me?"  One of his own players was more constructive.  “Maybe some curtains.”
