Dodgers and Yankees $650 Million Payroll

The combined 2024 payroll for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees is a staggering $650 million, according to The Wall Street Journal.  Meaning these two baseball juggernauts have managed to outspend the annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of six entire countries -- Dominica, Sao Tome & Principe, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, and Tuvalu.

In Tuvalu, the national GDP is barely enough to cover Aaron Judge’s home run bonus. Meanwhile, the Marshall Islands' GDP might get you through the first 40 games of Mookie Betts’ contract. Kiribati? Well, they could buy about two-thirds of Giancarlo Stanton’s quad strain treatment.  It’s all about perspective. One man's closer is another nation’s annual healthcare budget.
